Job Posting – Nextbridge: Indigenous Environmental Monitor

NextBridge Infrastructure L.P. (NextBridge) is proposing to construct the East-West Tie Transmission Project. The Project is an approximately 447 km, double-circuit, 230 kilovolt transmission line connecting the Wawa Transformer Station to the Lakehead Transformer Station in the Municipality of Shuniah near Thunder Bay, with a connection at the Marathon Transformer Station. We are currently seeking candidates from the Thunder Bay to Wawa area for Indigenous Environmental Participants contract position from early June until as late as August 2017. Multiple positions will be needed along the length of a 447km transmission line from Thunder Bay to Wawa.

  • Salary: $30/hour
  • Health and safety training provided
  • Personal protective and communications equipment provided
  • Living allowance (based on receipts)
  • Mileage allowance or rental


  • Work as an assistant to the Environmental Project Lead in the field
  • Collaborate with environmental field data collection
  • Identify potential and known traditional lands, cultural heritage and natural environment
  • Assist in collection and documentation of features of the cultural and natural environments
  • Completion of daily logs and weekly monitoring reports
  • Recommended potential mitigative measures to decreases potential impacts to cultural and natural environments


  • Knowledge of traditional land use and cultural heritage
  • Knowledge of community priorities, terrain, and local environment
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in location of traditional lands, culturally sensitive areas, environmental features, etc.
  • Skills in identification of wildlife would be an asset
  • Physically able to walk through difficult terrain for extended periods of time


  • Work experience in the field of environmental monitoring at construction sites an asset
  • Practical experience with collecting and documenting cultural heritage and traditional land data would be an asset
  • Demonstrated involvement in environmental stewardship would be an asset
